In the 1970s, Sweden sees itself as "the middle way" - a neutral country balancing between East and West, grounded in both a robust social welfare system and a market economy. When McDonald's open their first restaurant in Stockholm, some cheered - while others saw an imperialistic enemy. The Swedish welfare restaurant company SARA, however, saw a business opportunity and started their own hamburger joint - Clock. And so, the battle of the burgers had begun. Clock - Socialist Burgers Inc. follows the two-decade rivalry between the chains, viewing Sweden through the lens of a sesame seed bun. How will the changing zeitgeist impact a state owned burger joint? How can Swedes both love and loathe America? And what does a nanny state burger really taste like?
